RKD Netherland Institute for art History
The RKD proudly announces that, together with the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, and Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, it has been apportioned a sum of money from the TEFAF Museum Restoration Fund! It will be used to restore the Almanak Der Blaue Reiter (1912), which was jointly acquired by the four aforementioned institutions in 2015.
This deluxe publication, a unique copy numbered 4/50, is of great cultural and historical value. Two original, hand-signed colour woodcuts, ‘Fabeltier’ (Mythical creature) by Franz Marc from 1912, and ‘Bogenschütze’ (The archer) by Wassily Kandinsky from 1908/09, were added at the front of the almanac. The inclusion of these two prints distinguishes it from the trade edition. The almanac is a splendid supplement to the holdings of Expressionist art in the Netherlands. There is no other copy of it in a Dutch collection and this one has never before been exhibited.
