Van Gogh Worldwide launches

Grouping all information on Van Gogh’s work at a single, readily accessible location has been high on the wish-list of art historians and museums internationally for decades.

Van Gogh Worldwide has now launched: a project that works towards developing a digital platform for all scientifically validated knowledge and information on the work of Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890). The aim is to present this art-historical and technical information in an accessible way, via a user-friendly website that will provide a high-quality platform for specific scholarly target groups.

Van Gogh Worldwide is a joint initiative of three founding partners: the RKD - Netherlands Institute for Art History, the Van Gogh Museum and the Kröller-Müller Museum, and will be implemented with a large number of partners, including the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, museums, research institutions and individuals. Together, the three founding partners combine thorough art-historical and technical knowledge of the artist’s work with specialist experience in making information available digitally.

The first stage of the project (November 2017–November 2020) will focus on all works by Vincent van Gogh in the Netherlands: over 300 paintings and around 900 works on paper. Works located elsewhere in the world will then be added to the platform: Van Gogh produced a total of approximately 3,000 artworks.
