RKD Netherland Institute for art History
Supported by the Friends of the RKD, we recently published Treasures of the RKD, a book that tells the stories behind some of the highlights in our rich collections. A number of these treasures will be on view at the TEFAF. The importance of the objects lies in the remarkable stories that accompany them rather than their artistic merit. Apart from the spectacles that belonged to the renowned art forger Han van Meegeren, the exhibits include sketches, special artist's books as well as photographs – all revealing surprising and unknown aspects of art or artists.
As an art-historical documentation centre, the RKD's role is not to buy and sell art but to offer information about works of art and artists. Once again we are opening our stand to visitors who want to know more about art in the broadest sense of the word. A good place to start is www.rkd.nl, with hundreds of thousands of records that can be easily searched and contain a wealth of art-historical information about artists, artworks, collections and collectors, archival papers, ego documents as well as images. Visitors to the TEFAF have for years been grateful for this service.
TEFAF Maastricht, the pre-eminent art and antiques fair worldwide, offers works of unrivalled quality, providing a platform to leading art dealers and specialists from across the globe. The 32nd edition of TEFAF Maastricht will take place at MECC Maastricht from 16 to 24 March 2019. For more information, visit www.tefaf.com.
