Alongside the reproductions of paintings and sculptures there are also many images of engravings, drawings, pastels, miniatures, physionotraces, daguerreotypes and medals in the Portrait Iconography Images collection. There are at least 80,000 photographs and reproductions of documented Dutch portraits stored in the system. The collection also contains a small section of original graphics, drawings and some miniatures. And there is a collection of original portrait photographs from before 1920, including the unique collection of carte-de-visite photographs, cabinet photographs and family albums. Some of the images are stored in the Portraits database. All originals from the Portrait Iconography collection can be consulted by prior appointment. Scanned originals are only available for serious art historical research. As this material is stored in a depot you must give at least three working days notice before you visit the RKD. To make an appointment send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
