Rembrandt
Bol was possibly a pupil of J.G. Cuyp, before he is mentioned as a painter in Dordrecht in 1635. After 1635 he became an apprentice with Rembrandt in Amsterdam. A first sign of his stay with Rembrandt is the mention of his first name 'ferdijnandus' on the verso-side of a drawing in red chalck by Rembrandt from c. 1636 after a painting by Lastman (Ben 448), where there is question of Bol and Leendert (van Beijeren), that Rembrandt sold or was planning to sell. On 30 August 1640 Bol was a witness in a deed, made by a notary for Rembrandt (Blankert 1982, p. 16-17, 71)
