Although there is no birth certificate, Salomon is called 'Old 67' on the woodcut made by Dirck de Bray of his portrait from 1663; Houbraken 1718 also mentions 1597.

The date is mentioned by Houbraken 1718, p. 177. He probably died of the plague and was buried in St. Bavo on May 14. Also his sons Jacob (buried April 27), Joseph (buried May 18) and his daughters Juliana and Margaretha (buried May 23) died from the plague. Anna Westerbaen was already buried on March 3, 1663.
