    ‘wijnmeester’ (son of a master) in 1580 (Rombouts/Van Lerius 1872/1961); first known work: the 7 Planets after Maerten de Vos for Gerard de Jode; he subsequently worked for Philips Galle, Eduard Hoeswinckel and Hans van Luyck. After his marriage to Josina, he mainly worked for his father-in-law Galle. From 1587-88 attempts by him are known to work independently as a publisher. From 1593-94 he took on pupils, indicating that he was a free master as an engraver and publisher. From 1589 he also worked for Plantin Moretus (NHD 2005); in 1616-1617 he contributes to the relief-fund for Abraham Grapheus (Rombouts/Van Lerius 1872/1961, p. 539)
