    He spent some time in Rome where he became friends with Carl Loth and the well-to-do Utrecht painter Joan van der Meer van Utrecht, who had travelled to Italy in the company of the marine painter Lieve Verschuier in 1653 and became friends with him there.
  • Venetië 1656 - 1659
    He became friends with Carl Loth, whom he followed to Venice, where they made a series of depictions of the four evangelists; Drost eventually died there in 1659 at the age of 25.
