    In Rome in 1554 till 1578 or 1582; in the early 1560's, he probably made 16 big maps of several countries on the floor above the Logge of Raphael; in 1571 he drew the gardens of the Villa d'Este for cardinal Ippolite d'Este, showing the waterfall in Tivoli; in 1571 he became architect for cardinal Niccoló Gaetani, since 1572 pope Gregory XIII; between 1574-1576 he was frequently in the company of Karel van Mander in Rome (Dacos/Meijer et al. 1995)
