Son of goldsmith Jan Pietersz van den Eeckhout (1584-1652) and Griete Claes Lydeckers (1586-1631). Brother of Pieter van den Eeckhout (1608-1646) and half-brother of Ida van den Eeckhout (1634-1678). He stayed single all his life.
