Pierre Crozat's collection was left to his nephew Louis Antoine Crozat (1699-1770). Louis Antoine inherited the collection of his uncle Pierre Crozat. After his death, the collection, including 'Danaë' by Rembrandt's, was sold by his heirs to Catherine II of Russia. With this sale, Denis Diderot and the collector François Tronchin acted as mediators. The Crozat collection is now in the State Hermitage in St. Petersburg. Pierre and his brother Antoine belonged to the wealthiest merchants in France of their time. Antoine had three sons: Louis François, Joseph Antoine and Louis Antoine.
