buried 9 May 1701 in Utrecht (Saur 2012); Thieme/Becker states Amsterdam with the same date. According to Houbraken he died in Amsterdam during a pleasure trip, after several days of heavy drinking: as he had recently injured his chest in an accident with an overturned carrriage, he became violently ill late at night, started to vomit blood and died on 9 May; his body was transported to Utrecht.

    He was, according to Houbraken, several years in Venice, where he painted a.o. for the secretary of the Senate, mister Lucatello. Houbraken, unfortunately, does not give the date: it is only clear that he was first in Venice, before going to Rome.
