son of the buttonmaker Romeyn de Hooghe (born c. 1620) and Susanne Gerarts (Obreen 1888-1890, p. 249). He posted banns on 1 May 1673 in Amsterdam with Maria Lansman from Edam (De Vries 1885); the couple had one child, Maria Romana, who was christened on 14 March 1674 in the Nieuwezijdskapel (Van Nierop 2008, p. 14).
See also
In this field, you will find references to names of groups or to the artists that made/make up groups. You may also come across references to other artists if there was/is question of collaboration without a joint name. This is the case, for instance, with artists who rendered parts of works by other artists (such as with P.P Rubens and J. Brueghel I).
Between 1673 and 1685, De Hooghe produced portraits of Jan Sobieski, along with representations of his victories over the Turks and a large map of Poland. In addition to a considerable payment, this earned him a Polish title of nobility (Van Nierop 2008, p. 139).
