    apprentice in the Guild of St. Luke, Antwerp between 18 September 1648 and 17 September 1649(Rombouts/Van Lerius 1872/1961)
  • Londen (Engeland) 1662
    settled here in 1662 and became a rival of (Sir) Peter Lely (Waterhouse 1988); as a Catholic, he is quickly employed by Queen Catherine of Braganza as a portrait painter, and he is said to have called himself "Her Majesty's Painter" (according to Vertue). In 1664 Samuel Pepys visited him in his studio and mentions this visit in his diaries (Saur 2013).

    1678 Witness in the trial concerning the murder of Sir Edmund Godfrey: he lived in St. Martin-in-the-Fields at the time. In 1683 he was paid for painting the dome and high altar of the Queen's Chapel in St. James's Palace in London (destroyed) (Saur 2013)
