    enrolled as a student at the University on 15 May 1631. Followed the lectures of Jacob Gool, professor in Arabic and Mathematics, which introduced him to Descartes and his philosophy (whose portait he drew and published in his book Geometria)

    At the recommandation of Descartes Christiaen Huygens became his private student at university in 1645. He also taught Johan de Witt, Johan Hudde (burgomaster of Amsterdam) and Hendrik van Heuraet. He corresponded with them his whole life. On 8 February 1646 he became his father's successor at the School of Engeneering. In 1653 he became professor at the University. His main work is Mathematische Oeffeningen, which was published in 166o, shortly before his death.
