Ferdinando Gonzaga

Ferdinando was Duke of Mantua between 1612 and 1626. Before his accession, he was cardinal in Rome, where he was in contact with artists such as Paul Bril and Domenico Feti. In 1610, he bought several works directly from Bril. As Duke of Mantua he kept extending his art collections. Ferdinando died in 1626 sterft childless. His brother and successor Vincenzo (II) sold most of his collection to King Charles I of England due to financial problems.
