Spiering was a Swedish agent since 1634. He bought art for Queen Christina of Sweden in Holland. He sent paintings by Gerard Dou to Christina, but she sent back these paintings because she did not like them. Spiering was patron of Gerard Dou and owned works by him. In 1636, Spiering settled in The Hague and informed Count Oxenstierna.
