Specialised in electrotype technique (Dutch: galvanoplastiek); supervised the manufacturing of the National Monument, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Kingdom of The Netherlands. The monument in The Hague was unveiled in 1869. In 1888 he stepped back from the silver company to continue his carreer in politics and became a member of the Tweede Kamer der Staten Generaal.
