  • Nördlingen 1634
    Ferdinand of Austria was a talented general and spent much of his time on the battlefield against the armies of the Republic of the United Netherlands and against the French kingdom. In 1641 he became ill during fighting. He died in Brussels at the age of thirty-two. He left a daughter, Marie Anne de la Croix (1641-1715), who went into a monastery.
  • Antwerpen 1634
    His 'Joyeuse Entree' in Antwerp was a famous public celebration. Rubens was asked to arrange this festive reception and decorated the city with arches, sculpture galleries and special performances in the theatres, assisted by every artist of name in the city.
  • Brussel 1635 - 1641
    In 1641 he became ill during fighting. He died in Brussels at the age of thirty-two.
