Cornelis Dusart worked together with Dirk Maas in selling paintings at auctions (Biesboer/Köhler et al. 2006, p. 144-145). On April 25, 1718, Iz. van der Vinne in the Prinsenhof sold the estate of D. Maes, which shows that Maas owned paintings by Campodoglio, Th. Wijck, Wijnants, Berchheyde, Verbrugge, Poussin, Vermeer, Pijnacker, Ruisdael etc., prints by Italian, French and Dutch masters (Molhuysen/Blok 1933).

Son of Carel Dircksz. Maas and Maycke Carelsdr. Bruynsteen. He married his first cousin Aletta van Vaerle on 6 July 1694 in the Walloon French Protestant Church (Waalse kerk) in Amsterdam; they had seven children, five of wich died in infancy. According to Biesboer/Köhler et al. 2006, p. 226: son of Carel Dircksz. Maas from Hoorn (died 1708) and his second wife, Geertruida van Vaerle (died 1674). His uncle, Johannes Dircksz Maas (1629-1699) also worked as a painter, living in Haarlem from 1659-1699. Another painter in Dirk’s family was his cousin Jan Pietersz Maas (1655-1690), also active in Haarlem.
