Married 1) in The Hague on 25 November 1612 (sic) to Gratia Cletcher (died 1612): their daughter Ana was married to Johannes Mijtens, mother of Daniël Mijtens II, in The Hague, 1628 and 2) in The Hague in 1628 to Susanna Droeshout/ Drossate, painter of miniatures (died 1648)

    According to a letter from 1618, he then resided in London. Since c. 1620 court painter of James I, and after 1625 of Charles I. With the arrival of Anthony van Dyck in 1632, Mijten's career as court painter came to an end. From 1624 on he was granted a house 'at the upper end' of St Martin's Lane for 12 and a half years (Wood 2000-2001). He must have had a large studio in England given the great amount of studio replica's produced; c. 1630 Cornelis Jonson van Ceulen I was probaly one of his assistants (Saur 2016).
