also made 'chassinetten': a chassinet is framed and painted glass to adorn window panes. Immerzeel 1842 and Van der Aa 1868 mention that he was very skilled in painting 'chassinetten' with transparent paint. According to Houbraken he painted these works on thin silk, to adorn windows and lacquer objects (Houbraken 1721, p. 266). He was a regent of the mennonite orphanage in Haarlem in 1703.

He was introduced at the court by court painter Herman van der Mijn, after which he befriended the court painter Jan Frans van Douven, who placed paintings on glass ('chassinetten') by his hand in the sight of the elector, after which the latter comissioned Van Nickelen to paint several of the elector's residences, gardens and fountains (Houbraken 1721).
