Francesco Maria Bourbon del Monte

Raised at the court of della Rovere in Urbino and later associated to the court of Ferdinando I de' Medici. He was passionate about music and the visual arts, and acted as patron of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome. His Palazzo Madama was one of the most important intellectual salons in Rome. Del Monte was a major client and protector of Caravaggio, Galileo Galilei and poet Torquato Tasso. At the time of his death, his art collection counted about 600 painting.
