a painting on the name of A. Neranus, signed and dated AVNeeranus 1634, depicting Jephta being welcomed by his daughter, in the collection Mr. R.H.C. Taylor, c. 1959, shows a signature which resembles the signatures in the early works by Aert der Neer (M. de Kinkelder).

During this youth, he was a 'majoor bij de heren van Arkel in Gorinchem' (Houbraken 1718-1721), and probably 'onderschout of stadhouder, gelijk voorheen dien post te Gorinchem genaamd werd, van den Drossaard van Gorinchem en den lande van Arkel [...], want eigenlijke Heeren Van Arkel waren er federt langen tijd, voor hem niet meer' (Van Eynden/Van der Willigen 1816-1840).
