Jan Gabrielsz. Sonjé

Qualifications
painter
Nationality/school
North Netherlandish
Born
Delft (city) 1625
c. 1625. When he registered as a member of the Guild on 3 September 1646 he was called as being born in Delft
Deceased
Rotterdam (city) 1697-01/1697-01-15
He is probably identical with the ' Jan gabereijeltsse opt Oostende' who is buried on 15 January 1697 (Jager 2016, p. 343 and note 18) The date 1707-09, which is named in older literature (and in RKD artists!) is mistaken, all the more as he is alrady mentioned as being deseased in a list of 1698 (Jager 2016, p. 343, notes 16 & 17)
Family relationships
this field records any family relationship to one or more other artist(s).
On 20 January 1658 he married Elisabeth de Jong from Rotterdam, with whom he had three daughters baptized between 1658 and 1663. When she died is not known, but Sonje remarried in 1665 in Dordrecht with Claesje Kerckenburgh from Geertruidenberg (Jager 2016, p. 342-343, inventory of his Estate in June 1665) Between 1667 and 1675 they had three sons baptized
