A mention of a painting with turnips in an Amsterdams inventory of 1681 suggests that Van de Venne painted also vegetable still-lifes; a Still-life with shels from 1656 in Detroit has as a companion piece a bunch of flowers, now in a private collection in Sweden (Willigen/Meijer 2003, p. 202)
