His son Willem Verschuring wrote to Houbraken, that Hendrick returned after five years (Houbraken 1719, p. 194), which is probably right. He left Gorkum after 12 September 1647 (Tissink/De Wit 1987) and returned in 1652.

In 1672 alderman of the city of Gorinchem and in 1675 member of the city council, again from 1679 till 1681; master of the hospital (gasthuismeester), in 1681 and 1682 alderman again; 'heemraad' (member of the board for the county's water management) and in 1684 municipal receiver. Also in 1681 and 1689 elder in his church (Tissink/De Wit 1987, p. 69).
