As governor of Pomerania he achieved great merit. Nevertheless, during the last years of Carl XI's reign, his courtly favor was very shaky and finally fell into complete disgrace. After Carl XII's accession to the government, he was indicted for several abuses of power, such as having deliberately disobeyed the king's commandments and orders, to have directed himself by the depreciation of coins, etc., for all of which he was condemned As a result of this, he lost his position in 1698 and after a long legal process, he was sentenced to death in 1705. He was, however, pardoned and in 1715, he was redeemed.
