Izabela Czartoryska began collecting art around 1780-1790. The most important works in her collection were Leonardo's Portrait of a Woman and Raphael's Portrait of a Young Man and Rembrandt's Landscape with the Good Samaritan. A large part of the collection was taken to Paris by her son, Adam Jerzy Czartoryski, and housed in Hôtel Lambert until 1870. The collection was brought back to Poland by his son Wladyslaw Czartoryski. For this he built a new museum in Krakow(Turner e.a. 1996).
