Rembrandt
This painting was always viewed as an autograph Rembrandt, until doubted by Gerson in 1969. He stated that the painting was an "18th- or 19th-century imitation" (Bredius/Gerson 1969, no. 39). However, according to Wheelock technical and stylistic evidence indicates that it was created by an unknown artist in Rembrandt's workshop (Wheelock, NGA online editions, accessed 2018-01-18).
