Van Musscher adopted the use of full-length figures and repeated the general composition in reverse, with the standing man holding a sheet of paper and surrounded by objects alluding to his profession, a woman sewing with her sewing basket beside her, one foot on a warmer. Details such as her slipper on the floor, the window at the left and the bird cage in the window were also adopted.
