Jacques de Gheyn (III)

Private collection
Object information
Object category
cream colored paper, silverpoint
opmerking over techniek door de eigenaar (2010): 'As far as I know, this variant is nowhere in the literature. You can make a similar drawing as follows: You cover the surface of the paper with dust or extremely fine powdered stone. At this state, The silverpoint is sufficiently abraded by this slight covering to let a visible trace on the paper. When the drawing is finished, you blow over the drawing, the rest of the powder will be off, only the silverpoint lines remain on APPARENTLY unprepared paper. The overall impression is a drawing which seems to be indented, because the impression by the silverpoint is a bit deeper than on prepared paper.'
