Voorheen als behorend tot de zogenaamde Honselaarsdijk-serie, tegenwoordig de Leeuwarden-reeks genoemd, aangezien de portretten afkomstig zijn van het Stadhouderlijk Hof te Leeuwarden en waarschijnlijk nooit in het paleis Honselaersdijk zijn geweest. Zie hierover: J. Bikker, 'Reeksen van militairen ontrafeld', Bulletin van het Rijksmuseum 54 (2006), p. 412-427, i.h.b. p. 413-417.Dit portret is een latere toevoeging aan de reeks kleine borststukken uit Leeuwarden die in een inventaris uit 1633 worden genoemd.
