Occupation

Stond aanvankelijk aan de zijde van de Habsburgse regering en de katholieke kerk, en werd daarom in 1567 tijdelijk stadhouder van Holland, Zeeland en Utrecht ter vervanging van Willem van Oranje. Nadat hij in 1573 gevangen was genomen door de opstandelingen, sloot hij zich bij de strijd tegen Spanje aan. Later werd hij benoemd tot bevelhebber van een deel van het Staatse leger.
