    according to Hofstede de Groot 1907-1928, Eikemeier 1972 and Gaehtgens 1987 this painting in Munich is a repetition by the artist after the painting Diana and Callisto from 1704, now in the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam; Gaehtgens bases this on the note book of Adriaen van der Werff (1716-1722, now in the Historical Museum in Rotterdam), in which 'aen Diana and Callisto' is mentioned together with a working period of only two weeks; Snoep 1973 considered the painting in Munich to be a prepatory oil sketch for the painting in Rotterdam from 1704
