    Welsh/Joosten 1998 erroneously lists the inscription as 'Van Piet Mondriaan aan Arnold Saalborn, met sympathie voor den schrijver van Zomersproken en De Schooier'. Information kindly provided by Rob Delvigne (e-mail 16 August 2017). According to information provided by Delvigne, Saalborn was the author of 'Zonnesproke', a short story in the periodical 'De Kunst', published 28 August 1909, and 'De Schooier', a short story in the 'Amsterdamsche studenten-almanak', published in 1910.
