painting
Support/medium
panel (oak), oil paint
The panel has a very slight convex warp and is beveled on the reverse, at the top and right edges. There is some tenting of the paint layers, but this is secure. The paint layers are rather abraded across the village, and there is a retouched scratch across the sky. There is some fine craquelure in the dark areas towards the bottom. Previous recorded treatment: 1952–3, restored, Dr Hell; 1995, consolidated, cleaned and restored, N. Ryder (Sophia Plender).
