During a fire on 8 November 1723 the painting was severly damaged. It was originally ca. 245 x 300 cm (Middelkoop/Enklaar/Van der Ploeg 1998, p. 26). There were 11 persons portrayed on the original painting.

Before the painting was burned in 1723 the surgeons Dirk Visch, Nicolaes Fruyt, Daniel Florianus, Augustus Meyer, Laurens de Lange, Barend Heems en Jacob Harny were also depicted on the painting.
