Arent de Gelder
This painting was always regarded as an autograph Rembrandt until doubted by Gerson in 1969. He considered it to be a work from the school of Rembrandt (Bredius/Gerson 1969, no. 384). An attribution to Arent de Gelder has been suggested (Stam 1973, p. 35-36; Levy 1976, p. 34), but was considered doubtful by Von Moltke (Von Moltke et al. 1994, p. 116, no. D 19). In 2006 Van de Wetering listed it as a work by a student from Rembrandt's workshop (Rønberg/Pedersen/Van de Wetering 2006, p. 118-120).
