Before restoration Larsen still thought the painting studio work: after cleaning he thought it was the first version and almost entirely autograph. Although he does record the painting in Larsen 1980, he does not mention it in Larsen 1988 catalog (?). Barnes 2003 finds the composition one of the most important ones and lists a great many versions but finds all of them studio repeats: no undisputed prime version is known nowadays
