in het voorwoord van de catalogus bij de tentoonstelling in de Bachstitz Gallery in 1922 (zie bij literatuur) schrijft Friedländer: 'I propose the name: Master of St. Gudule [betreft kunstwerknummer 27593 (Utrecht, Museum Catharijneconvent)], and attribute to him several other pictures, a list of which I shall publish shortly. One of them, a portrait of a young man in the National Gallery, London shows in the background the same locality as the Louvre picture, most probably a part of Brussels, a street leading to the town wall with the same characteristic cubic stone in the middle of the street.'
