Object information
Object category
painting
Support/medium
canvas, oil paint
Shape/dimensions
rectangle (landscape format) 21.5 x 28 cm
Current attribution
Piet Mondriaan
This painting was first attributed to Mondrian and assigned its title (a bridge constructed to allow or disallow cattle to move within the polders) by B. Bakker for the 'Piet Mondriaan the Amsterdam Years' exhibition of 1994. Comparison there with several other early landscape paintings by the artist confirmed its authenticity, and the lack of a signature is no problem for works of art by Mondrian acquired by Dr. Esser, who originally did not concern himself with the matter (Welsh/Joosten 1998).
