' A Choice Collection' heet het onderwerp te zijn: Cyrus geeft de schatten terug, doch dat kan m.i. niet het onderwerp zijn: er wordt immers goud en zilver ingezameld cq aangedragen en de koninklijke figuur is een oudtestamentaire koning en geen Oosterse vorst. Dit onderwerp is ook zinniger voor een glas-in-loodraam in een kerk (het schilderij was een ontwerp voor een glasraam in de Zuiderkerk) / In the exh.cat. ' A Choice Collection' is the subject matter identified as ' King Cyrus returns the treasure to the Temple' (Ezra 1:7-11), nbut in my opinion this cannot be correct, as gold and silver is being brought together by different people and the royal figure in the middle is more likely an Old testament king then a Eastern despot. This subject matter is also more appropriate for a window in a church (the painting was a model for such a window)
