The painting is identified as part of a series of seven paintings that according to an inventory from 1636 in the room of the queen dowager at Frederiksborg Palace in Denmark would have been. According to this inventory the painting is by Søren Kiaer. Three paintings from this series are preserved and are in the collection of the National Museum in Stockholm (Heiberg/Fritzboeger 1988, p. 74-75).
