In the art-historical literature this painting has been dated variously to c. 1660 (Amsterdam 1898, no. 110); c. 1662 (Bode/Hofstede de Groot 1897-1905, vol. 7 (1902) no. 489); c. 1668 (Valentiner 1921, p. 484-485); the first half of the 1660s (Valentiner 1931, p. 74-75); c. 1667 (Bredius 1935, no. 327; Bauch 1966, no. 447; Gerson 1968, no. 411). According to Wheelock the style of the sitters' costumes is datable to the late 1650s. Het dated the painting c. 1656/1658 (Wheelock, NGA online editions, accessed 2015-11-02).
