There are several paintings of this composition, none of them from before th 18th century and all measuring c. 60 x 50 cm. Possibly these representations are related to a 17th-century composition of Bol or Flinck (according to J.W. Von Moltke, Govaert Flinck, 1650-1660, Amsterdam 1965, p. 253, no. 135) or possibly Ovens and not Bol (A. Blankert, Ferdinand Bol (1616-1680): Rembrandt's pupil, Doornspijk (Davaco) 1982, p. 173, no. R 97). Blankert did not know the work by Grimou at the time. It is more plausible that all these versions are based on this work by Grimou and that Grimou mixed several elements of Rembrandt, Bol, Flinck, Frans van Mieris, Caspar Netscher (U. de Goede and R. van Leeuwen, July 2010).
