  • influenced by
    Titiaan
Flora, oil on canvas, c. 1515-1520, 79.7 cm x 63.5 cm.; until 1641 in the collection of Don Alfonso Lopez in Amsterdam, since 1793 at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

The influence of Titian's Flora in both motif and subject matter has been mentioned several times in the art-historical literature (Kieser 1941, p. 156; Stechow 1942, p. 141; Bloch 1946, p. 175; Held 1961, p. 218).

    H. Kauffman (Kauffmann 1918, p. 34-56) published the drawing as a study for the painting by Rembrandt himself. In 1973 W. Wegner rejected the attribution to Rembrandt and attributed the drawing to Nicolaes Maes (Wegner 1973, no. 751). An attribution to Ferdinand Bol was made by Sumowski in 1979 (Sumowski 1979-1992, vol. 1 (1979), no. 187). Nowadays the drawing is generally regarded as a work of a pupil after the painting or a later forgery (Corpus of Rembrant Paintings vol. 3 (1989), no. A 142).
