In 1653 werden door Schaep de schilderijen "op de groote kamer" in de Kloveniersdoelen beschreven. Het overliedenstuk van van der Helst werd pas later in de zaal geplaatst. (Scheltema 1855-1885, dl. 2, p. 135-136)In 1765 werden het schilderij van Flinck en het Overliedenstuk van Van der Helst (nr. 11825) door Wagenaar op de "groote Schutters zaal" beschreven. De grotere stukken waren toen al naar het Stadhuis getransportreerd. (Wagenaar 1760-1767) , p. 75
