Astrid Verheusen new Managing Director of the RKD
As of May 22, 2023, Astrid Verheusen will join the RKD as the new Managing Director and CIO (additionally, also as Deputy General Manager). As a member of the management team, Astrid will ensure efficient and effective business operations and (digital) information management, with the aim of positioning the RKD nationally and internationally as a leading institute within the field of knowledge and information about the art of the Netherlands.
After studying History, Astrid Verheusen started her career as a researcher at the former Institute for Dutch History (now part of Huygens Institute), then as product manager at Sdu Publishers. From 2001 to 2017, she held various positions at the KB, where she was responsible, among other things, as Head of Innovative Projects for various programs and projects concerning mass digitization, digital preservation and the digital library. Since 2017, she has been Executive Director of LIBER (Ligue des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherche – Association of European Research Libraries), a European network organization of more than 420 national university libraries and other academic libraries.
Prof. dr. Chris Stolwijk, General Director RKD: ‘With Astrid, we welcome a passionate, skilled and experienced Managing Director, who has made an important contribution over the years to the far-reaching digital transition within the field of humanities and the cultural domain. We are confident that she, together with her colleagues, will establish the RKD as a hospitable home for art history, both physically and digitally, for museums, science and the public. We look forward to an inspiring collaboration.’
Astrid Verheusen: ‘I am very pleased to start as the Managing Director at the RKD soon. The ambitions of this wonderful organization fit perfectly with my background in the humanities and cultural sector. I look forward to making a difference and contributing to all the great projects and activities with my new colleagues.’
