The RKD is committed to lending objects from its collections to exhibitions that are scholarly in scope or with a cultural objective, and which are held in museums, libraries or similar institutions. Although it is important to us that our collections can be shared in this way with others, it is unfortunately not possible to grant all loan requests. For example, the physical condition of an object may mean it is too fragile to travel, the duration of the exhibition may not be suitable or there may be other circumstances affecting the request.

Please bear in mind that the maximum loan period is four months and that we must receive your loan request not less than three months prior to the opening date of the exhibition. For more information please read our conditions for loans.

Loan requests can be submitted either on paper or electronically. Please send the following documents:

Please send all documents to: RKD – Netherlands Institute for Art History, for the attention of Professor Chris Stolwijk, RKD Foundation PO Box 90418 2509 LK The Hague The Netherlands, or by email to, for the attention of Professor Chris Stolwijk, subject: loan request.
